David W. Harrison, Ph.D.: Dr. Harrison, a licensed clinical neuropsychologist, is Director of the Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory and an Associate Professor within the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech. He is the director of Neuropsychological & Counseling Services. Dr. Harrison received his Bachelor of Science “with distinction” in psychology/biology from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Science degree in biopsychology from the University of Georgia. He received his Ph.D. in biological psychology/neuropsychology from the University of Georgia and went on to complete a three-year clinical post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology, geriatrics, and behavioral medicine at the University of Georgia. During this time, he served on the faculty at the University of Georgia. He also served a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the Gainesville, Florida Veterans Administration Medical Center. Upon completion of his post-doctoral fellowship and faculty appointment at Georgia, Dr. Harrison was appointed an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Director of the Laboratory of Neuropsychology within the Department of Psychology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Harrison has been elected as a Fellow by the National Academy of Neuropsychology for his contributions to the field of neuropsychology. Dr. Harrison was a 2006 university-wide recipient of The Student Alumni “Favorite Professor” Award. He has authored/co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, including book chapters, journal articles, and abstracts in the fields of clinical neuropsychology and behavioral neuroscience. He has presented numerous scientific papers at state and regional conferences and national and international science conventions. Dr. Harrison has also been awarded a number of research grants. He recently served as a Principal Investigator on a grant-funded project which established an innovative “Memory Screening Outreach Program” that provided free, detailed, memory screenings to middle-aged and older adults in under served regions. He has also received grant funding for his research in nutritional neuroscience or the effects of dietary nutrition (e.g., antioxidants) on brain function.
